Katherine Gray

Katherine (Katie) Gray holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace Engineer from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and a Master of Business Administration from Canberra University. Katie has over 25 years experience in Government policy and regulation frameworks.

 

Katie specialises in improving safety and understanding of aviation. She has extensive experience in risk management, airline operations, human factors and aviation safety. Katherine is a qualified project and program manager and is qualified in both PRiNCE2 and MSP (Managing Successful Programmes).

She has extensive experience leading change in areas where compliance is a key outcome. Katie is an Airline, Engineering and RPAS lead auditor, and a lead auditor instructor. She also teaches Project Management with Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) Solutions. Katie has a particular interest in the differences and opportunities arising from operation between RPAS and other aviation sectors. 

Katie is the co-author of the book “Drones in Society-Exploring the Strange New World of Unmanned Aircraft”.

Katie was recently sponsored by The Global Fund as RPAS technical advisers to work with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vanuatu (CAAV) developing locally applied RPAS regulations, policies, procedures and supporting documentation, while training the CAAV staff in regulatory oversight of RPAS.  She was also oversighting the regulatory aspects of the UNICEF sponsored vaccines delivery trials on behalf of the CAAV to ensure compliance with world’s best practice.  The CAAV RPAS regulations were gazetted in late 2020.

Katherine spoke at the last ICAO Drone Enable Symposia (Operational Experiences - DRONE ENABLE 2019 - ICAO TV.) sharing the experiences of the work in Vanuatu and the application of the SORA.
